GRAMMAR

SCHOOL

Sutton Grammar School – the project began with a Master Plan for the whole school. The first stage of this plan, the new Maths teaching block illustrated above, was occupied in September 2012.  To complete the Master Plan proposals this new building can be extended along the eastern boundary of the site.

Impact on surrounding dwellings has been minimised by digging into the ground, and projecting the first floor forward towards the playground.  Roof lights and light wells  flood both the ground  and first floor rooms with natural light.   Efficient circulation is arranged through a covered external walkway at first floor level and a covered Cloister at ground floor level.  The Cloister is a social area and can also be used for informal teaching.  The building has a sedum roof with an array of PV panels, and has been designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ accreditation.
